Match up the rules between home and school.
How confusing is it at work to have two different people telling you to do the same job but giving you different instructions to complete the job? Wouldn’t it be easier if they just had the same instructions? Well the same can be said for rules at school and at home. It is confusing for kids to have one set of rules at school and then a completely different set at home. Get your rules at school and home on the same page.
Talk with your kids about rules for the following issues:
- Appearance/Clothing/Hygiene
- Use of Electronic Devices (cell phones, IPOD, Nintendo DS)
- Fighting/Bullying/Touching
- Appropriate Language
- Homework Completion
Make time at school and at home easier for both you and your child by having rules in common at both places. Through this simple discussion, you can strengthen your relationship with a child while also making the rules at school clear for them. Consult the student handbook for a clear explanation of rules. This is a great opportunity to show the students in your life how important their education is to you…..a simple fact more kids need to know.
